CS373 Summer 2018: Diemi Pham (Week of 4 Jun — 10 Jun)

Week of 4 Jun — 10 Jun

1. What did you do this past week?

Before the first day of class, I looked for the required textbooks; and fortunately I found and got them with a super good price, they were FREE. During the first class, I was interested in the way Dr. Downing giving his lectures, Socratic method; the interactive dialogues gave us a chance to think about and speak out loud our answers even if we did not know what the answers were, just guessed; and I liked that Dr. Downing said our name before giving us a question; that was a respectful and connective communication method. After the first class day till the end of the week, I was trying to finish preparation for the class, getting the tools ready, completing assigned readings for next week, planning an effective schedule for tasks need to be done, and running some other errands.

2. What's in your way?

Time management is always a big deal, especially in summer when the course is half of the time shorterned. And an important point is that my summer is not only this course in general speaking. Balancing life, school, and work is not an easy job, but as soon as I work it out, it will be worth it.

3. What will you do next week?

Keep moving on the course's flow is the main task during the semester. In next couple of days, I am going to finish setting up the tools and preparatio for the class, as well as step through the first project.

4. What are your expectations of the class?

After this course, hopefully I am going to be able to play a role in the software development process, no matter back-end or front-end, as well as be able to develop an application either by myself or with a team.

5. What's my pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My tip-of-the-week is start soon and follow the plan. Starting soon allows me to go through the process in an un-rushed mannner and have enough solving time for unexpected events. Moreover, following the plan strictly helps me keep track of where I am, what I have done, and what need to be done. However, to have an effective plan,I need to know what I can and cannot do, as well as how long it will take me to finish stuffs.
